God builds what He initiates. This is how He did it.

What's inside

Read the spiritual climate

How to read the spiritual climate of an unchurched community, and a theology of vision that produces faith-sized strategy.

Build a team from nothing

The foundations of building a core team from nothing, a framework for barrier-breaking welcome, and relationship-based evangelism that uncovers hidden spiritual hunger.

Raise leaders who multiply

A five-stage model for raising leaders, principles for sustainable financial stewardship, digital engagement that strengthens incarnational ministry, and disciplines that sustain vision through the long, invisible years.

Why you need this book

God builds what He initiates. This is how He did it. The unchurched world is not waiting to be impressed by our programmes. It is groaning for the authentic, self-giving, community-transforming presence of a Church that is willing to come to it rather than waiting for it to come in. This book is a theology and a strategy for planting the Kingdom of God where it is least expected and most desperately needed.

It is written for the church planter with more vision than visible evidence, for the established leader looking at a community their church has not yet reached, and for the student of mission who wants a rigorously biblical, practically field-tested treatment of urban church planting. Every chapter was lived before it was written.

The story behind the book

RCCG Amazing Grace Chapel, Hull

Planted in a rented room in Hull in 2005, in a city over 98% White British and largely indifferent to the Gospel, with one member and rows of empty chairs.

Today the chapel has over 1,500 members, two Sunday services, more than 400 children in its children's ministry, around 100 ministers, three daughter parishes (Grace Pavilion, Throne of Grace and Grace Embassy) and an emerging online church, and is a recognised force for social good in the city.

“What you hold in your hands is not merely a book on church-planting strategy. It is the theological and practical distillation of twenty years of front-line Kingdom work. The principles in this book are not theoretical. They are blood-and-sweat tested. Every chapter has been lived before it was written.”
Pastor Leke Sanusi, RCCG Continental Overseer, Europe (Continent 9), from the Foreword
